The Tabasco pepper, is a type of chili pepper that is native to the Mexican state of Tabasco. It is a small, tapered pepper that grows to be about 2.5-5 cm in length and about 0.6 cm in width.
The pepper starts out green and matures to a bright red colour. It has a thin, delicate skin and a juicy, crunchy texture. The flavour of the Tabasco pepper is described as fruity and slightly sweet, with a sharp, intense heat that is hot but not overpowering.
The heat of the Tabasco pepper is measured on the Scoville scale, which is a rating system used to measure the spiciness of peppers. The Tabasco pepper has a rating of 30,000 to 50,000 Scoville units, which is considered to be moderately hot.
The Tabasco pepper is most commonly used to make the popular hot sauce brand, Tabasco sauce. It is also used in many other spicy condiments, such as salsa, marinades, and rubs. Additionally, the pepper is sometimes pickled or dried and used as a seasoning or garnish in dishes such as salads and sandwiches.
Cone shaped fruits are borne erect all over about 90cm bushy plants. Yellow green fruits mature to red - mix of juvenile and mature fruits make this plant ornamental and useful in the kitchen.
